Uzbekistan to host over 100 Ukrainian children for health rehabilitation

Uzbekistan has reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian support for Ukraine by agreeing to receive more than 100 Ukrainian children for health and rehabilitation programs this year. The agreement was reached during a working visit to Tashkent by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Olexandr Mischenko, who held extensive bilateral consultations with Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister, Bakhromjon Aloyev.

During the negotiations, the Ukrainian diplomat expressed profound gratitude for Uzbekistan's ongoing humanitarian assistance. He particularly highlighted the significance of the rehabilitation program for children and thanked the Uzbek government for its principled stance in supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Mischenko also extended appreciation for Uzbekistan’s consistent diplomatic support, specifically noting recent cooperation within the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

A central theme of the discussions was the restoration of momentum in trade and economic cooperation. Both sides agreed to revitalize the activities of the Joint Commission on Comprehensive Cooperation and to modernize the existing legal and regulatory framework governing bilateral relations. To bypass current logistical hurdles, the diplomats discussed the development of alternative transport routes, emphasizing the strategic potential of the Trans–Caspian International Transport Route.

The meeting also touched upon soft power and intellectual collaboration. The representatives confirmed a mutual interest in expanding ties within the sphere of higher education, including the resumption of academic exchange programs and the launch of joint scientific research projects. Furthermore, there is a renewed push to intensify interregional contacts through the strengthening of "sister city" partnerships between various administrative centers in both nations.

As part of the visit’s cultural program, the Ukrainian delegation joined members of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar communities in Uzbekistan to honor the memory of the legendary poet Taras Shevchenko. A floral tribute was held at his monument in Tashkent, symbolizing the deep-rooted cultural connections between the two peoples.
