Central Bank denies rumors of UZS 500,000 banknote issuance
The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has officially refuted rumors circulating on social media regarding the imminent introduction of a UZS 500,000 banknote. Reports began appearing on various platforms on April 6, claiming that a new high-denomination bill featuring the portrait of Mirzo Ulugbek was prepared for release.

In a statement provided to the Daryo news agency, the Central Bank information service clarified that these reports are entirely groundless and do not correspond to reality. The regulator urged the public to rely solely on official sources of information to avoid being misled by speculative content.
This denial aligns with previous statements made by the Chairman of the Central Bank, Timur Ishmetov, who addressed the issue during a press conference earlier this year. At that time, the bank leadership explicitly stated that there are currently no plans to introduce new banknotes or to carry out a denomination of the national currency.
The Central Bank emphasized that its primary focus remains achieving the established inflation targets and maintaining macroeconomic stability. While the leadership acknowledged that certain market shifts have influenced the structure of banknote denominations currently in circulation, the priority remains the effective management of monetary policy rather than the expansion of the nominal range of currency.
The regulator continues to monitor the cash circulation system to ensure it meets the needs of the economy without necessitating the introduction of larger denominations at this stage.
