Over 32,000 passengers fined for fare evasion on Tashkent buses in Q1
Strict measures against fare evasion on public transport are yielding results in the capital, as the Transport Inspection Bureau reported that 32,450 passengers were held accountable for unpaid travel during the first three months of 2026. The inspections, carried out across January, February, and March, aim to reinforce payment discipline and improve the financial sustainability of the city’s bus network.
According to the Transport Inspection Bureau, the monitoring process has been heavily digitized, allowing inspectors to conduct targeted raids based on real-time data. By analyzing transaction patterns, authorities identified specific routes where payment levels were lagging.
Currently, heightened control measures are being implemented on eight major routes, bringing the total number of monitored lines to 28 since the start of the year. Officials noted that wherever raids are intensified, there is a corresponding and immediate increase in the number of recorded transactions.
The legal basis for these penalties is found in Article 144 of the Code of Administrative Responsibility. Under this article, passengers who fail to pay for their travel in public transport face a fine amounting to one-tenth of the base calculating amount (BCA). At the current rate, this penalty stands at UZS 41,200 for each violation.
The Transport Inspection Bureau has urged all residents and guests of the capital to comply with public transport regulations and ensure timely payment for their trips.
