Survey shows steady rise in family happiness across Uzbekistan
The family happiness index in Uzbekistan rose to 0.618 in 2026, according to a survey conducted by the country's Family and Gender Research Institute. This score places the nation in the “high” category under the institute’s methodology.
The study, carried out in March-April 2026 across the Republic of Karakalpakstan, all 12 regions, and Tashkent, surveyed 12,697 respondents nationwide. The index is measured on a scale from -1 to +1, with scores from +0.5 to +1 classified as high, 0 to 0.49 as medium, and below 0 as low.
The institute noted that the index has shown steady improvement in recent years, rising from 0.560 in 2023 to 0.611 in 2025, before reaching its current level of 0.618. The assessment is based on eight key indicators: economic well-being, employment, access to education, healthy life expectancy, demographic stability, satisfaction with family life, family values, and public services.
Sub-indicators also showed broad gains across various sectors. Economic well-being increased from 0.414 in 2025 to 0.439 in 2026, while the employment score rose significantly from 0.337 in 2023 to 0.489 in 2026. Satisfaction with government services improved from 0.372 in 2023 to 0.514 in 2026, and access to education rose from 0.399 to 0.522 over the same period.
Healthy life expectancy edged up from 0.596 in 2023 to 0.605 in 2026, while satisfaction with family life increased from 0.667 to 0.750. Traditional family values remained highly rated, rising from 0.720 to 0.793, while demographic stability stood at a strong 0.831 in 2026.
