Border guards seize illegal medicine shipment from Kazakhstan worth over UZS 1.3 billion
A joint enforcement operation conducted by the Border Troops of the State Security Service and customs authorities has successfully blocked a large-scale attempt to smuggle an illicit shipment of pharmaceuticals and medical devices into Uzbekistan from neighboring Kazakhstan.
The detection took place at the S. Najimov border customs post, where officials flagged and inspected a cargo truck arriving from Kazakhstan. The vehicle was driven by a resident of the Fergana region. A thorough physical search of the truck's cargo hold revealed a total of 95,369 units of medical supplies spanning 52 distinct product names, all concealed underneath crates of various food products.
Following the initial discovery on the border, intelligence and field officers extended the operation to track the domestic distribution network. This coordinated follow-up led to a sting operation where law enforcement personnel detained the intended recipient – a 39-year-old resident of the Tashkent district born in 1986 – at the exact moment he arrived to take delivery of the contraband cargo.

An official appraisal by expert evaluators placed the total market value of the seized medical goods at UZS 1,323,000,000.
A criminal case has been formally initiated by the relevant authorities regarding the illegal cross-border transit, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to identify any other individuals connected to the smuggling operation.
