“Uzbekfilm” is not simply a film studio. It is the cradle of Uzbekistan’s national cinema, which has reflected the country’s history, the lives of its people, as well as their hopes and experiences on screen for almost a century, Mirziyoyeva said on September 17.
The Head of the Presidential Administration said the management system in the film industry needs to be updated, with the state taking on a strategic partnership role focused on creating conditions for the industry’s development and providing financial support, rather than directly participating in the creative process.
Private film studios, independent producers and filmmakers are expected to play a greater role in driving the industry’s development.
The entire film-production process, from financing to reaching audiences, including distribution, theatrical releases, festival participation and exports, will be modernised in line with international standards, she said.
Plans also include strengthening the system for preserving, restoring and digitising the country’s national film heritage, while expanding opportunities to train a new generation of specialists and exchange experience internationally.
Mirziyoyeva also stressed the importance of developing a professional environment and a culture of self-regulation in the industry, where the views, experience and authority of directors and other film professionals are valued.
During the visit, she toured the set of a historical film about the childhood of Abu Ali ibn Sina. She praised the scale of the sets and the work of the creative team and wished the filmmakers success ahead of the film’s premiere.
