The issue was raised at a meeting on August 13 between representatives of Uzbekistan’s transport and logistics sector and Shadurdi Meredov, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan.
Representatives of the Center for the Study of Transport and Logistics Development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Association of International Road Carriers of Uzbekistan, national carriers and freight-forwarding companies also attended the meeting.
The talks covered several issues affecting cross-border freight operations, including electronic visa processing for truck drivers, streamlining payments and improving procedures at the Farap–Alat border crossing. The sides also discussed ways to reduce queues and waiting times.
Other proposals included establishing a dedicated corridor for perishable goods, building a second bridge in the neutral zone, speeding up road and rail freight through the Port of Turkmenbashi, and reviewing existing weight and dimensional restrictions.
The Turkmen side said it was ready to consider the proposals and submit them to the relevant state authorities.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue cooperation aimed at expanding transport and logistics ties between the two countries and creating more favorable conditions for carriers.
