The country had 577,700 school teachers at the beginning of the academic year, up by 12,800, or 2.3%, from the previous year.

Women accounted for 418,800 of the total, compared with 158,900 men.

Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions had the largest teaching workforces, with 65,100 teachers each. They were followed by Fergana region with 60,600 teachers, Surkhandarya region with 52,300 and Andijan region with 46,300.

Namangan region had 42,600 teachers, followed by Karakalpakstan with 40,700, Tashkent region with 40,200, Khorezm region with 35,100 and Tashkent city with 34,100.

Bukhara region had 33,400 teachers, while the figures stood at 25,700 in Jizzakh region, 22,300 in Navoi region and 14,200 in Syrdarya region.

The figures do not include teachers working part-time or holding secondary jobs.
