The decision was announced after a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, where officials reviewed the state of liquefied gas supply across the country.
In Andijan region, consumers received 41,000 tonnes of liquefied gas during the first half of the year, falling short of the planned 48,000 tonnes. Supplies are also behind schedule in 318 neighborhoods.
Since the beginning of the year, private companies have imported 157,000 tonnes of liquefied gas. Under the new approach, entrepreneurs will be permitted to sell this fuel directly to households and business entities.
Families registered in the Unified Social Register will receive subsidies to purchase liquefied gas. The government also plans to introduce the so-called "Andijan experience" nationwide before the end of the year, although no further details were provided.
Officials were also instructed to increase domestic liquefied gas production from the previously planned 520,000 tonnes to 606,000 tonnes by the end of the year.
Distribution system to be revised
At present, liquefied gas is supplied to households in standard 20-kilogram cylinders. According to the presidential press service, however, consumption patterns vary considerably: some households need only 5–6 kilograms per month, while others require cylinders with a capacity of 30–40 kilograms.
To better match consumer demand, the government plans to review the country's liquefied gas transportation, storage and distribution system within a month, drawing on international standards and foreign best practices.
