Coxsackievirus belongs to the enterovirus group and most commonly affects children.
According to Nurmat Otabekov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, the infection can cause a fever of up to 39–40°C, headaches, general weakness, nausea and vomiting.
Characteristic symptoms include rashes on the palms, soles of the feet and the mucous membranes of the mouth. Health specialists recommend seeking medical attention if pronounced symptoms develop.
To reduce the risk of infection, the ministry advises people to wash their hands regularly with soap, clean toys and shared objects, thoroughly wash fruit and vegetables, and drink safe water.
The ministry also cautions against taking antibiotics without medical advice when a viral infection is suspected.
Antibiotics are ineffective against viruses, and their use should be determined by a doctor.
