President pardons 402 people, including 17 foreigners
Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree “On pardoning a group of persons serving a sentence, who realized their guilt and firmly embarked on the path of correction”.
The document, in connection with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution and in accordance with paragraph 23 of Article 93 of the Basic Law, pardoned 402 persons serving sentences who, unknowingly committed a crime, but sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of correction.
Of those pardoned, 128 persons are released from punishment completely, 201 are released from serving sentences on parole, the punishment imposed on 15 persons is replaced by a milder one, in a word, 223 persons are released from penitentiary institutions, and 121 persons are removed from the register of probation authorities. In addition, the terms of punishment in the form of imprisonment imposed on 58 persons are reduced.
Among those pardoned are 17 citizens of foreign states, 26 men (over 60 years old), 63 women, 19 persons who participated in the activities of banned organizations.
As part of the implementation of the decree, the responsible ministries and departments were instructed to assist the pardoned persons in returning to their families and loved ones, social adaptation, involvement in useful work, choosing a healthy lifestyle and taking a worthy place in society.
