Man sentenced to six years for involvement in Nukus riots died, prosecutor’s office launches investigation
On February 4, prisoner Polat Shamshetov (a former employee of the Interior Ministry of Karakalpakstan) died in pre-trial detention center No. 4 of the MIA Department for the Execution of Punishments.
The place where he died was examined by an investigative team led by the prosecutor of the Bukhara region, the head of the regional police department, forensic experts and other persons.
The regional representative of the Oliy Majlis for human rights (Ombudsman), Polat Shamshetov’s lawyer and his close relatives were also involved in the process.
According to the preliminary conclusion of the forensic medical examination, Polat Shamshetov died as a result of pulmonary embolism and acute cardiovascular insufficiency.
The Bukhara City Prosecutor’s Office is currently investigating the case.
It should be recalled that on January 31, by a court decision, Polat Shamshetov was found guilty under Part 3, Article 244 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to 6 years in prison with deprivation of the right to hold financially responsible positions for 3 years.
