Senate approves legislation that expands possibilities of using the flag

If the President approves the law, the state flag will be allowed to be used in sports competitions, public physical training events, cultural and other public events, family holidays, commemorative dates and other occasions.

Also, by treating the state symbol with the necessary respect, signs with its image can be used in public places and buildings, places of residence or work, as well as in areas adjacent to them, in the interior of vehicles.

A legal basis is being established for the use of signs with the image of the state flag in the symbols of state bodies (flag, heraldic sign) and on their official websites. The image of the national flag can be displayed on outerwear for decoration purposes.

It is allowed to use the national flag and signs with its image in the following cases:

-  when used by individuals and legal entities representing the Republic of Uzbekistan at official international events,
-  when used in uniforms and distinctive badges by persons in military or other public service;
-  in the preparation of sports clothes for international sports competitions and championships of Uzbekistan.

At the same time, the cases in which it is unacceptable to treat the national flag with disrespect are clearly defined.

Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva touched on this change.

“Clarifying and liberalizing the procedures in this regard, allowing our flag to be flown in the homes of our people on the days of joy, in simple words, is to achieve that our flag becomes a true national flag. At the same time, it is extremely important that the law establishes clear norms on disrespecting and disrespecting our flag, because it is about the symbol of our country,” she said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the presidential candidate from UzLiDeP, while introducing his pre-election program, also touched upon the necessity of free use of the state flag.

The current president said that the national flag is used only during celebrations and ceremonies or when hoisting it at sports competitions, and now it is time to adopt a document allowing it to be flown in every home.

“I would ask the deputies and senators in the parliament to take into account today’s vital necessity when adopting the draft document in this regard,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

In November last year, UzLiDeP took the initiative to simplify the requirements for the use of the national flag, including the permission to install the flag at homes and workplaces. In addition, it was proposed to revise the measures of responsibility related to the use of the flag.
