Citizen of Uzbekistan sentenced for attempting to join war in Ukraine

A resident of Karakalpakstan, who signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense, was given the rank of private and the position of rifleman. After this, he fled the military unit and returned to his homeland on a Moscow-Urgench flight.

At the end of June, the Amudarya District Criminal Court considered the case against H. H., who intended to fight in Ukraine, Uznews.uz writes with reference to the court’s verdict.

In December 2023, H. H. arrived in Moscow seeking employment and initially worked at various construction sites. On February 5 of this year, he decided to participate in the military actions in Ukraine, signing a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense for an initial monthly salary of 195,000 rubles, and later 240,000 rubles.

H. H., along with other labor migrants whose identities were not established during the preliminary investigation, was sent to the "Avangard" military camp in the Moscow region for combat training and military skill development.

After training, he received the rank of private and the position of rifleman.

However, H. H. later changed his mind about fighting and on February 9, escaped from the military camp and flew to Uzbekistan on a Moscow-Urgench flight. He returned to the Amudarya district where he resided. He was detained at the end of March.

The court found him guilty under the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. He was sentenced to 3 years of restricted freedom. His permanent residence was designated as the place where he would serve his sentence. He is prohibited from leaving his home from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
