Uzbekistan repatriates two children left without parental care in Russia

Two children left without parental care in Russia have been repatriated to Uzbekistan with the assistance of the Temporary Detention Center for Juvenile Offenders in Moscow. They were placed in the center following a police raid.

According to the National Agency of Social Protection’s press service, one of the children had been engaged in labor migration since 2023. While still a 9th-grade student, they traveled to Moscow with their older sister’s husband, initially working as a janitor before later becoming a dishwasher in a café.

The second child had traveled to Russia under a power of attorney issued by their parents. Both children were placed in a temporary detention center for juvenile offenders following a police raid.

The agency emphasized that a power of attorney issued for accompanying children from Uzbekistan does not grant legal guardianship rights in another country.

In March, the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Foreign Affairs, along with the National Agency of Social Protection, plan to repatriate children who have been deprived of parental care abroad. The statement also mentions that practical measures are being taken to reintegrate them into a family environment.
