Uzhydromet warns of potential flooding in eight regions due to heavy rains
Heavy rains forecasted from May 8 to May 11 are expected to cause flash floods in the mountainous areas of eight regions of Uzbekistan.
The Uzhydromet Agency has issued a warning, stating that flash floods could occur in the foothill and mountainous regions of the country due to anticipated rainfall. The areas where potential flooding is expected include:
- Kashkadarya region: Yakkabog, Dehkanabad, Chirakchi, Kitob, Shahrisabz, Kamashi, Guzar districts;
- Surkhandarya region: Sariosiyo, Uzun, Altinsay, Denov, Boysun, Sherobod, Shurchi, Qumqorgon, Muzrobod districts;
- Samarkand region: Urgut, Samarkand, Bulungur, Nurabad, Koshrabot, Kattaqorgon, Payarik, Jomboy, Ishtikhon districts;
- Jizzakh region: Zomin, Bakhmal, Gallaorol, Sharof Rashidov, Forish, Yangiabad districts;
- Tashkent region: Ohangaron, Bostanlyk, Parkent, Piskent, Orta Chirchiq, Yuqori Chirchiq districts, and the cities of Angren and Almalyk;
- Namangan region: Pop, Kosonsoy, Chortoq, Chust, Namangan, Yangiqorgon districts;
- Fergana region: Sokh, Fergana, Besharyk districts, and Shohimardon area;
- Andijan region: Andijan, Asaka, Jalakuduk, Qorgontepa, Pakhtabad, Izboskan, Khujabad, Marhamat districts, and the city of Khanabad.
Residents of the foothill and mountainous regions, as well as tourists and drivers traveling through these areas, are urged to take precautions.
The agency also noted that the accumulation of rainwater could lead to flooding in the affected regions.
