Abdugani Sanginov appointed chairman of Uzbekneftegaz
Abdugani Sanginov, who has led Uzbekhydroenergo JSC since 2017, has been appointed chairman of Uzbekneftegaz. He replaces Bahodir Siddiqov in the post.
The change follows the dismissal, a day earlier, of Alisher Sultonov, the representative of the President of Uzbekistan on Energy Security.
Bahodir Siddiqov had headed Uzbekneftegaz since March 2023. It is reported that he has moved on to another position.
Sanginov was appointed chairman of Uzbekhydroenergo JSC in May 2017, when the company was established, and had remained in that role until his latest appointment. Prior to that, he headed the Uzsuvenergo association under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.
On December 17, the Uzbekhydroenergo team formally saw Abdugani Sanginov off as he transitioned to his new position.
It is worth recalling that following the Sardoba Reservoir disaster in 2020, Sanginov became the target of criticism on social media. His press service rejected the accusations at the time. It later emerged that a company owned by Sanginov’s son had been selected without a tender as a contractor for a hydropower project in Surkhandarya worth nearly UZS 1.5 trillion.
