Uzatom, in cooperation with the Japanese company Muroosystems Corporation, will implement an international project to establish a data center fully supplied with electricity generated by small modular reactors (SMRs).
“The project envisages the construction of a data center with a planned power consumption of 50 MW, which will be covered by electricity generated by SMRs. This approach makes it possible to create stable and predictable demand for nuclear-generated electricity, increasing the efficiency of nuclear power plant capacity utilization,” the agency said.
According to Uzatom, the project integrates nuclear energy with digital infrastructure. The data center will be powered exclusively by electricity produced by SMRs, which, the agency noted, “makes the project the first of its kind in the world and sets a new benchmark for energy-intensive IT facilities.”
In addition, Uzatom Director Azim Akhmedkhodjaev told the television channel Uzbekistan 24 that, during the president’s visit, an agreement on cooperation was signed with Nukem, a subsidiary of Muroosystems Corporation. The agreement covers the use of technologies related to ensuring safety in the management of spent nuclear fuel.
