Israil Madrimov returns to ring against Luis David Salazar in Las Vegas
Former WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov will return to the ring on January 24, when he faces Luis David Salazar in a 10-round bout at 154 pounds, Matchroom Boxing announced on Tuesday.
The fight will take place on the undercard of the Raymond Muratalla vs. Andy Cruz matchup at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas and will be streamed exclusively on DAZN.
Madrimov enters the bout with a professional record of 10-2-1, including seven knockouts. The 30-year-old boxer is returning after undergoing surgery on his left knee and left shoulder following a unanimous decision loss to Vergil Ortiz in February.
That defeat marked Madrimov’s second consecutive loss. In August 2024, he dropped the WBA junior middleweight title in a closely contested unanimous decision against Terence Crawford. He had won the belt earlier that year, in March, with a knockout victory over Magomed Kurbanov.
Salazar, a 32-year-old boxer from Puerto Rico, brings a record of 20-1 with seven knockouts. His only professional loss came in his lone bout outside Puerto Rico, when he was stopped in the eighth round by Kevin Johnson.
The January 24 fight will mark an important step in Madrimov’s bid to reestablish himself in the junior middleweight division following injuries and back-to-back defeats.
