The death of the legendary boxer, widely known as the “Tashkent Tiger”, was announced by Zafar Imamkhodjaev, press secretary of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.
Riskiev made history in 1974 when he became a world boxing champion. Two years later, he won a silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games.
His achievements made him the first Uzbek boxer to win medals at both the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
Riskiev also recorded a number of victories at international tournaments during his career, winning competitions held in the United States, Cuba, Austria, the former Yugoslavia and Spain.
After retiring from competitive boxing, he remained active in the sport. He became the first international-category professional boxing referee in Central Asia.
Riskiev was also recognized with several state awards for his contribution to the development of Uzbek sport. His honors included the Order of the Badge of Honor, the Order of Outstanding Services and the Order of Respect for the Nation and Country.
Riskiev’s performances in world and Olympic rings remain an important part of Uzbek boxing history. His achievements helped shape the sport in Uzbekistan and left a lasting example for generations of boxers.
