QR payment codes to become mandatory for self-employed and sole proprietors from January 2026
Relevant amendments have been introduced to the Code of Administrative Liability.
Starting January 1, 2026, sole proprietors and self-employed individuals will be required to have a special QR code generated on the digital platforms of payment service providers in order to accept electronic payments.
The absence of such a QR code will be treated as equivalent to failing to use cash register equipment and/or payment terminals.
The changes were introduced to Article 221 of the Code of Administrative Liability. A fine of UZS 5 million has been set for this violation.
Using a special QR code registered in another person’s name will result in a higher fine of UZS 20 million.
