Uzbekistan and Tajikistan plan to boost cargo flows and border infrastructure

Tashkent and Dushanbe are considering the organization of pilot freight shipments along the China – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan transport corridor.

Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are planning to expand opportunities for freight transportation, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan reported.

Samarkand hosted a meeting of the joint commission of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan on the development of international road transport. The Uzbek delegation was led by First Deputy Transport Minister Mamanbiy Omarov, while Tajikistan was represented by Deputy Transport Minister Shoista Saidmurodzoda.

The meeting focused on increasing the capacity of the Jartepa – Sarazm border crossing. The parties also discussed the organization of pilot freight shipments along the China – Tajikistan – Uzbekistan transport corridor.

In addition, the commission reviewed options for switching international road transport permits to an electronic format and increasing their number. The parties outlined tasks and measures to be implemented going forward.

Earlier, the head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, Saida Mirziyoyeva, reviewed a project for a new logistics center in the Urgut district on the Uzbek–Tajik border. The facility is expected to handle up to 100 trucks per day with expedited document processing.

Plans also include establishing a diagnostic center near the border to serve 150–200 patients daily, as well as a commercial complex for 800 entrepreneurs. Tajik citizens will be able to use retail and medical services “without passport control, unnecessary paperwork, or long queues.”
