Uzbekistan to ban cash payments at fuel stations from April 2026
Uzbekistan will ban cash payments at fuel stations starting April 1, 2026, under a presidential decree aimed at expanding cashless transactions and reducing the shadow economy.
According to the decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on December 10, 2025, payments for fuel sales at petrol stations, including oil and gas products, as well as electric vehicle charging services, must be made exclusively through non-cash methods. These include bank cards and electronic payment systems.
From April 1, 2026, fuel stations across the country will no longer be allowed to accept cash payments for their services. The measure forms part of broader reforms to promote cashless settlements nationwide and improve financial transparency.
The decree, titled “On additional measures to popularize cashless settlements and reduce the share of the shadow economy,” outlines a series of steps to limit the use of cash in high-value and high-frequency transactions.
In addition to fuel-related services, the document also stipulates that cash payments for the purchase and sale of residential property and automobiles will be abolished, further tightening regulations on cash circulation in the economy.
The authorities expect these measures to help curb informal economic activity, enhance tax compliance, and accelerate the digitalization of financial transactions in Uzbekistan.
