Central Bank issues commemorative gold and silver coins celebrating Uzbekistan's World Cup debut
To celebrate the national football team's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan is issuing a special series of commemorative coins made from 999.9 pure gold and silver.
The obverse of the coins features the official logo of the Uzbekistan Football Association, a classic football, and an inscription reading "TARIXIY ZAFAR. O'ZBEKISTON FUTBOLI JAHON CHEMPIONATIDA 2026". These elements celebrate the national team securing its first-ever ticket to the tournament, marking a major milestone in the country's sports history.
The design also pays tribute to the team's official nickname, the White Wolves. A wolf silhouette on the reverse side symbolizes the determination, team spirit, and strong will of the players. The Central Bank noted that the imagery cleverly incorporates the silhouettes of 26 football players, highlighting that this historic achievement belongs to the entire squad through their unity and collective hard work.
Additionally, the coins feature intricate patterns inspired by ornaments found on ancient Uzbek architectural monuments, which have also been integrated into the national team's official uniform. This artistic choice brings together football, national pride, and the rich cultural heritage of the country into a single design.
The 31.1-gram coins have been produced in a strictly limited edition, with only 100 gold and 1,000 silver pieces minted.
The commemorative coins will be available for purchase starting 18 June through 690 commercial bank branches across the country. Daily updates regarding pricing and availability at specific banking locations will be published on the official website and social media channels of the Central Bank.
