Preliminary census data registers over 56,000 foreign citizens living in Uzbekistan
Preliminary results from the latest population and housing census show that 56,860 foreign citizens have been registered as living in Uzbekistan for more than one year.
The figures were announced during a press conference dedicated to the initial outcomes of the comprehensive nationwide data collection initiative.
Among the registered long-term foreign residents, Tashkent hosts the largest concentration, with 19,300 foreign nationals currently residing in the capital city.
The demographic breakdown by country of origin reveals that nearly one in four foreigners who have spent over a year in Uzbekistan is from India. Citizens of India represent the largest group at 13,312 people, accounting for roughly 23 percent of the total. Russian Federation nationals form the second-largest community with 10,826 residents, or 19 percent.
The remaining registered foreign population includes 9,425 people from Kazakhstan, 5,722 from Tajikistan, 5,347 from Turkmenistan, and 4,397 from Kyrgyzstan. Beyond Central Asia and Russia, the census recorded 1,433 citizens from Pakistan, 1,031 from China, 811 from Turkey, and 691 from the Republic of Korea, while an additional 3,865 residents arrived from various other countries.
According to the National Statistics Committee, this demographic trend is heavily supported by educational migration. In 2025 alone, the highest number of student arrivals came from India, with 17,241 individuals entering the country specifically to pursue their studies.
