Ex-governor of Karshi imprisoned for 4 years

Jamshid Fozilov, who was the governor of Karshi in 2016-2019, was imprisoned in October 2022. He was found guilty of committing crimes such as abuse of official power and illegal land allocation.

Jamshid Fozilov, the former governor of Karshi, was sentenced to 4 years in prison, the press service of the Supreme Court reported.

“By the judgment of the Karshi city court on criminal cases dated March 10, 2023, Jamshid Fozilov was found guilty of committing such crimes as abuse of official power, forgery of the official position, violation of the procedure for granting land.

According to Article 59 of the Criminal Code (punishment for multiple crimes), he was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment, with the deprivation of the right to work in official positions for a period of 2 years.

At the moment, the appeal filed by the defendant against this sentence is being formalized for consideration at the appellate instance of the criminal trial panel of the Kashkadarya regional court.

For information, Jamshid Fozilov served as the governor of Karshi in 2016-2019. In December 2018, during the president’s visit to Kashkadarya region, this governor was sharply criticized, and in October 2019, he was fired.

During his tenure as the governor of Karshi, Jamshid Fozilov was repeatedly criticized in the media for his unfair decisions against businessmen. In particular, he was criticized because of the “demolition” issues in the Central Dekhkan Market in Karshi and illegal constructions in the Yerkurgan markets.
