Russian ambassador provides info about opening of the RF consulate general in Samarkand

Following the negotiations held in Moscow in early October, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Vladimir Putin adopted a joint statement on the deepening of comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance relations. With the participation of the heads of state, 10 documents accepted by the governments and ministries of the two countries were exchanged, including an agreement on the establishment of the consulate general of the Russian Federation in Samarkand.

“Recently, many important events have been taking place in Samarkand: within the framework of both Russia-Uzbekistan and international organizations – SCO and CIS. The city has become not only the political platform of the republic, but also its cultural and tourist capital. In 2023, the flow of tourists from Russia to Uzbekistan will almost double,” the Russian diplomat said.

According to him, the combination of these factors requires further acceleration of consular assistance to Russian citizens in the region.

“From this point of view, the agreement reached between our countries on the opening of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Samarkand is an important step in the steadily expanding cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan. The first and most important step on this path has been taken, there is a legal framework, now the economic and administrative part remains: looking for a suitable building, hiring employees, etc. Of course, in this process, we hope that our Uzbek colleagues, the leadership of the republic, and the city administration will help us to open the doors of the new Russian institute in the near future,” the ambassador concluded.
