Andijan residents sentenced for involvement in illegal drug smuggling from Kyrgyzstan
They were caught by the State Security Service (SSS) and customs officials while receiving 87 types of illegally smuggled drugs from Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan, with a total value exceeding 1.5 billion UZS.
A.D., born in 1983 and previously convicted, along with his former classmate Sh.J., conspired in August 2023 to receive 87 types of drugs, including "Focusin," "Dopegyt," "Cognitum," and "Erynit," illegally smuggled into Uzbekistan from the Kyrgyz Republic across the state border. They were apprehended with the contraband by the State Security Service and customs officers.
According to the assessment by an LLC engaged in valuation activities, the total value of the drugs amounted to 1,616,802,000 UZS.
Furthermore, according to the examination report from the Ministry of Health's "Pharmaceutical Products Safety Center," a portion of these drugs was not registered in the state registry of medical products and medical equipment, and no conformity certificates were issued for them.
It is noteworthy that A.D. had previously been criminally prosecuted for illegal currency transactions and violations of customs regulations as part of an organized group.
In connection with the case, the Investigation Department of the Andijan Regional Division of the State Security Service initiated a criminal case against A.D. and Sh.J. under Article 182, Part 2, Section "a" of the Criminal Code, and investigative actions were carried out.
As a result, the Kurgantepa District Criminal Court sentenced A.D. to 5 years and Sh.J. to 3 years of imprisonment.
