Turkish Airlines crew member faces fine for smuggling ammunition at Samarkand Airport
Ibo Yusuf, a crew member of Turkish Airlines, was stopped by border customs officers at Samarkand Airport while attempting to smuggle military ammunition through customs after arriving from Istanbul. The Turkish citizen was later sentenced by the court, according to documents obtained by Kun.uz.
According to the ruling, Ibo Yusuf, born in 2000, was a crew member of Turkish Airlines. On November 19, 2024, he took a "24 SAR P9" military cartridge and hid it in his hand luggage.
On November 24, 2024, Ibo Yusuf traveled from Istanbul to Samarkand on the Istanbul-Samarkand flight and attempted to smuggle the military ammunition through customs control. He was stopped by border customs officers at Samarkand Airport.
The military ammunition was identified as evidence and was properly documented. A forensic expert report concluded that the 9mm caliber cartridge was a type of military ammunition, manufactured by factory methods, and suitable for use in "Yarygin" (Grach) and "Glock" firearms.
Ibo Yusuf fully admitted his guilt in court, stating that he had purchased the 10 cartridges for use at a shooting range, and one cartridge had been left in his bag without his knowledge.
The court found Ibo Yusuf guilty of committing the crime of smuggling under Article 246, Part 1, of the Criminal Code. Pursuant to Article 57 of the Criminal Code, he was fined 100 times the base calculation unit (37.5 million UZS).
