Gov't to introduce bachelor’s program for preschool teachers with specialized education
A new form of bachelor’s studies will be introduced at pedagogical universities for preschool teachers with secondary specialized education. Under this system, teachers will study one day a week and work the remaining five days.
Uzbekistan is expanding access to preschool education, but officials stress that kindergartens must also adopt new approaches and modern teaching methods, with teachers’ qualifications matching these changes. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted this issue at a sector meeting on education held on 9 September.
According to official data, 118,000 preschool teachers underwent professional training this summer. However, the president noted that this was not sufficient.
Starting from the new academic year, pedagogical universities will launch the “1+5” bachelor’s program, designed for teachers with secondary specialized education. The program allows them to study one day a week while continuing to work for five days. This initiative is expected to bring nearly 10,000 university-educated specialists into preschools every year.
The president also pointed out that there is no unified approach to the quality of education and upbringing in public and private kindergartens.
To address this, “New Generation” kindergartens will be established in each region next year. These institutions will serve as hubs to provide methodological support and improve teachers’ pedagogical skills.
Authorities have been instructed to develop the “New Generation” kindergarten project with fresh ideas, moving away from outdated and uniform practices.
