The document aims to promote sustainable development, reduce inequality, and ensure equal opportunities for all citizens. Over the next five years, the program will define the priorities of 25 UN agencies, funds, and programs that support Uzbekistan in achieving its national development goals.

The new framework covers six key areas:

  • effective governance and rule of law;
  • employment and social protection;
  • healthcare;
  • education;
  • environmental sustainability;
  • development of the Aral Sea region.

Sabine Mahl, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, emphasized that the new agreement places people at the center of all initiatives and reflects a shared commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable future:

“The signing of the new five-year cooperation framework between the UN and Uzbekistan is a people-centered milestone. At its heart is the individual – and everything related to improving quality of life, including healthcare, education, social protection, and the environment. We are proud to support the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan and believe that every man and woman can contribute to the country’s development and benefit from its progress. Uzbekistan is an important member of the United Nations, and it is a great honor for us to work together for a sustainable future,” she said.

During the ceremony, Sodiq Safoyev, First Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis and Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, noted the systemic nature of Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the United Nations and stressed the importance of joint efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Today’s signing marks a new phase of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN, built on clear performance indicators across 19 areas – from education and healthcare to ecology and gender policy. We are establishing a system that measures progress not only at the national level but also across regions and districts. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals is a shared responsibility of the state, civil society, and the scientific community, aimed at improving the lives of current and future generations,” Safoyev said.

The ceremony, timed to United Nations Day, symbolized the strong partnership between Uzbekistan and the UN.

The event brought together representatives of non-governmental organizations, civil society, as well as ministries, the diplomatic corps, and foreign embassies accredited in Uzbekistan.
