Households without gas access may receive up to 50% electricity discount
Uzbekistan may introduce a 50% electricity tariff discount for households living in non-gasified areas.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the initiative targets residential consumers who do not have access to natural gas networks and do not use subsidized liquefied gas, coal, or natural gas. Under the proposed scheme, eligible households would receive discounted electricity tariffs based on monthly consumption volumes.
The Ministry of Energy said the proposals cover apartment buildings, dormitories, and individual households in non-gasified areas that are fully electrified, including those equipped with electric stoves for cooking and electric heating systems, and are not connected to centralized heating or gas supply networks.
According to the draft proposal, electricity consumption would be discounted by up to 50% compared to current tariffs within the following limits:
• up to 2,000 kWh per month during the heating season;
• up to 1,000 kWh per month outside the heating season.
The ministry noted that the proposals have already been coordinated through an interagency approval process.
At the same time, a technical audit is currently underway to assess whether existing power grids can handle the additional load.
